Bridget Cox, founder
of Peggy’s Strands of
Heaven, usually refers
to herself as a novice
knitter. She learned to
crochet as a child,
making dolls, granny
square blankets and
afghans. At the age of
30, after her son was
born she took up
knitting as a way to
have a bit of
"ME" time each
week. Her teacher at the
time Anna taught her
well, if you don’t
like the pattern, change
it. From there the rest
is history in the
making. She opened Peggy’s
Strands of Heaven as a
tribute to her mother
who taught her to
believe in herself.
You can usually find
her at the square purple
table, with a cup of
coffee, laughing about a
mistake that she’s
made in her knitting.
Oh, she refers to those
as "Design
Elements".
Margaret Calver
was born and raised in
New Castle, England once
upon a time. She learned
to knit and crochet very
early in life as they
did in those days.
Margaret did not take
knitting up as a hobby
until she was in her
early 30’s. Her
"Mum" was such
an avid knitter and
could knit anything with
speed and precision.
Once Margaret began to
knit garments she was
"hooked", and
when she found out that
Peggy’s was opening
she realized she had
discovered an
"Aladdin’s
Cave" full of
wonderful yarns. Being
here is a golden
opportunity for her to
help rekindle the
growing interest in
Knitting &
Crocheting.
Linda Buckner
is an award winning
fiber artist. She
utilizes high quality
fibers in
"luscious"
colors, felt, fabric,
antique embellishments,
wire and more to create
visually stunning art to
wear, collages, home
décor and gift items.
She creates new products
for a toy manufacturer,
teaches and exhibits
mixed media art
nationally. She is a
contributing designer to
several Lark Book
publications.
Becky Medved is an accomplished seamstress and self proclaimed adventurer. Her love of new experiences started Becky on a new quest KNITTING. Walking by Peggy’s Strands of Heaven one day, she was drawn in by the colorful array of fibers that lined the walls. Once she stepped in and started knitting she was hooked. She quickly fell in love with the variety of textures and colors available and is currently working on developing a “Stash”. Watch out though if you sit and knit with her to long she will bring out her homemade Baklava which is just to die for. Our staff & customers make up reasons to throw parties just to sample her many culinary delights.
Patty Turner comes to us from Yorkville where she collects anything sheep related, and loves to add to her knitting book and fiber stash! A teacher of the visually impaired during the day, Patty brings patience and eye for detail, organizational techniques and a big dose of humor to her knitting classes! You can usually find Patty reorganizing the fiber selections by color just so she can touch them all, she can’t fool us we know she has the knitting fever and what better place to work than Peggy’s where the walls are lined with fibers galore!
Carrie Plachta came to knitting in her thirties, when she simply could not stand walking past aisles of yarn without knowing something to do with it. She describes herself as "rapidly" obsessed with knitting and yarn". Carrie loves all types of knitting and has never met a technique she won't try, but her current loves are lace and socks. "I could never do that" are fighting words to Carrie and she will have you knitting lace endings and turning heels on socks before you realize you purchased the yarn. When not knitting, Carrie's two daughters are prone to dialing 911 because "if Mama's not knitting, something is very wrong!"
